Privacy Policy

Tastebook is an iPhone app for planning meals for a group of people who do not all eat the same thing. It is made by Can Yıldız, who is responsible for the data described here. This policy explains what Tastebook stores, why, who else sees it, and how to delete it.

The short version

Tastebook stores what it needs to plan meals for you and your group. It shows no advertising, contains no analytics SDK, and never sells your data.

Your account

You sign in with Apple. There is no other way to create an account. Tastebook receives your Apple user identifier and your email address; if you choose Hide My Email, that is Apple's private relay address rather than your real one. These are stored by Supabase, which runs Tastebook's sign-in and database.

What Tastebook stores

• Your dietary profile: display name, allergens, diet labels, cuisines you like and dislike, your cooking context and your skill level.
• Your circles (the groups you plan meals with), their members, and any named dependents.
• Your personal recipes.
• Your weekly meal plans, grocery lists and meal history.

This is stored so the app can plan meals that work for everyone in your circle.

Information about other people

You can add dependents to a circle, such as a child with a food allergy, and enter their dietary information yourself. Dependents do not have accounts. If you enter someone else's information, please make sure you have their permission, or are responsible for them.

What other people in your circle see

Other members of your circle see dietary information as anonymous counts only, for example how many people avoid a particular allergen. Your name is shown next to your dietary needs only if you choose to allow it.

Services Tastebook uses

• Supabase stores your account and the data listed above.
• A third-party AI provider (OpenAI) ranks and explains recipe suggestions and generates menus. It receives recipe candidates and anonymised dietary constraints. It never receives names.
• TheMealDB is where Tastebook's recipe data comes from.
• RevenueCat keeps track of your subscription status. Payment itself is handled by Apple; Tastebook never sees your card details.

No advertising, analytics or data sales

Tastebook shows no advertising and contains no analytics SDK. Your data is never sold.

Allergens and safety

Tastebook checks recipes against allergens and diets to help keep everyone safe, but it is not a substitute for reading ingredient labels and checking the original recipe. Always check before cooking for someone with an allergy.

Deleting your account

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing cnyldz@gmail.com. Account deletion is also being added inside the app. Once deletion is requested, your data is deleted within 30 days, which allows time for it to clear from backups.

You can also email the same address to ask for a copy of your data or to correct it.

Children

Tastebook is for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please email the address below and it will be deleted. Dependents entered by an account holder, including children, do not have accounts of their own.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
