Privacy Policy

Penfont is a Mac app that turns your handwriting into a font. It is made by Can Yıldız. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

The short version

Your photos, your pages and the fonts you make stay on your Mac. Penfont has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking, and it never uploads your handwriting.

Your handwriting

The photos you take of the template, any pages you bring in, and the fonts Penfont builds are kept in its own folder on your Mac, in Application Support, and nowhere else. Reading your handwriting is done on your Mac by Apple's Vision framework, which is part of macOS. Nothing you write or photograph is uploaded.

Fonts you export as .ttf or .woff files go wherever you save them. From that point they are ordinary files, and sharing one shares your handwriting.

No accounts, analytics or tracking

Penfont has no accounts and no sign-in. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Its privacy manifest declares that it collects no data.

When Penfont uses the network

There are exactly two reasons, and neither involves your handwriting:

• Your licence. When you enter your key, Penfont sends it to Polar to activate it, along with Polar's organisation identifier and your Mac's name, which is used as the label for that activation so you can see and free your activations. It re-checks the licence with Polar every 7 days.
• Updates. Penfont checks cnyldz.com/penfont/updates/appcast.xml for new versions.

Deleting your data

Deleting a project in Penfont deletes its photos and its font. To remove everything Penfont keeps, quit the app, delete it, and delete its folder in Application Support. Fonts you installed on your Mac, and files you exported yourself, stay where you put them until you remove them.

Children

Penfont does not collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
